Over 300 trail runners will lace up for the iconic Rhodes Quality Dryland Traverse that starts today.

The four-day stage race, which showcases the classic trails of the Klein Karoo, is fast becoming a favourite on the South African running scene. As a sell-out event in 2018, entries have almost doubled since last year’s edition with an increase in female participants in particular.

Festivities kick off with a truly unique Prologue that will take adventure-seekers on a magical, underground route through the world-famous Cango Caves. The Rhodes Quality Dryland Traverse is the only event that has permission to take runners through this area.

The stages ahead include summiting the mighty Swartberg Mountains, breathtaking views of the Great and Klein Karoo, and trails that run past the renowned Raubenheimer Dam.

One of the stand-out runners at this year’s event is Robert Rorich. Rorich recently came 8th at this year’s Otter African Trail Run, which brought the top 10 trail runners in the world to South Africa. Not only did he outclass many of the international superstars, but also picked up a new South African record for the course.

Dryland Events Management is especially excited to announce the title sponsorship of Rhodes Food Group this year:

“We have been partners for a couple of years now and the value they bring is immense. Rhodes is represented by a large contingent of their staff and they are involved with all our events, but at this one they are the naming rights partner.  We are really proud to be associated with such a dynamic South African company,” said Dryland Director Henco Rademeyer.

Not only does Rhodes Food Group offer a delicious and diverse range of food for runners at this event, but also plays an integral role in uplifting the local community.

This year seven young athletes were given complementary entries in an effort help promote the sport. Rhodes Food Group Marketing Manager, Merlin Norman, explained:

“We truly value people – the communities we encounter through this event lie at the heart of everything that we do. We are privileged to assist these up and coming athletes achieve their personal running goals, and in doing so hope to leave a lasting, positive impact on the Klein Karoo community.”

Rated as South Africa’s trail running event with the ‘coolest vibe’, the Rhodes Quality Dryland Traverse promises to be spectacular.
